Stolen guns: MEC calls for probe

2015-02-05 00:00

COMMUNITY Safety MEC Willies Mchunu has called for an investigation into the theft of firearms and drugs from a police vehicle in Durban.

Mchunu, who learnt about the incident yesterday, is asking members of the public to come forward with information that may help the police solve the case.

Speaking for the MEC, Kwanele Ncalane said a detective parked a police vehicle loaded with firearms and drugs at the Snell Parade, Durban last week Tuesday night.

The car was apparently broken into and the firearms and drugs stolen.

“We are particularly concerned that these guns may join the pool of illegal firearms which are key drivers of heinous crimes and criminality in the province.

“We urge that something should be done immediately to have these guns and drugs recovered,” said Mchunu.

Police are investigating the matter.
