Students set to wow judges at the Vodacom Durban July

2014-07-04 00:00

STUDENTS from the Priscilla Bhika School of Fashion will be hoping to wow the judges at the Vodacom Durban July tomorrow with their interpretations of this year’s theme — The Big Screen.

Fifteen second year students from the Pietermaritzburg design school will be competing in categories for best hat, best dressed, best couple and avant garde.

“We build creating an outfit for the July into the course,” said principal of the school, Priscilla Bhika, “and we encourage them to take part in events like this and other shows to help them realise how much they have learnt.”

Among those taking part is Kimberley Naidoo, who has created a Bollywood-inspired outfit. “Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the muse for my design … My fabric came from the east, I wanted to give it a modern updated look,” she said.

Fellow student Brian Myeni said he was inspired by musician, Solange Knowles. “I used animal printed leather fabric, because she likes using them,” he said.

And Nonsikelelo Ninela, who was inspired by Nollywood star Ini Edo said, “She’s one of the most stylish Nigerian stars.”
