Stung: Bees attack woman

2012-11-13 00:00

AN elderly Verulam woman was recovering in hospital after being stung by a swarm of bees yesterday morning.

The Reaction Unit South Africa security company head, Prem Balram, said the quick reaction of the woman’s neighbours probably saved her life.

It was believed the woman (70) was attacked by the bees after the family dog urinated on the beehive, Balram said.

“The bees attacked the woman as she ran for her life. She then collapsed on the sidewalk and onlookers covered her in blankets and sprayed bug spray around her,” he said.

Reaction Unit SA officers found the woman lying alongside the road about 200 metres from her home.

“She had bee stings all over her body, arms, legs and head and appeared to be in a critical condition. Several residents had applied home-made medication on the woman while awaiting paramedics,” said Balram.

The woman was taken to a local doctor before being taken to hospital.
