Super Kings’ openers ensure victory

2014-04-28 00:00

AN opening stand of 85 between Kiwi Brendon McCullum and West Indian Dwayne Smith laid the foundation for an emphatic five-wicket victory for the Chennai Super Kings in their IPL match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Chasing a modest 146 for victory, the openers did the majority of the work before a late flurry of wickets gave the men from Hyderabad some late, but futile hope as the Super Kings finished on 146-5, securing victory with three balls to spare.

The Delhi Daredevils came out on top in the battle at the bottom as they beat the Mumbai Indians by six wickets with seven balls.

Another abject batting display from Mumbai meant they were only able to muster a score of 125/6.
