Suspect: caught after four years

2013-01-29 00:00

A FUGITIVE’S four years on the run finally ended on Sunday when he was arrested in the Sydenham area of Durban.

The 50-year-old man, wanted for the murder of his girlfriend, was nabbed by officers from kwaDukuza policing cluster following a tip-off.

He is scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court “soon”, said spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane. He cannot be identified until then.

On April 13, 2009, the 38-year-old victim was in her flat in Brickfield Road in Durban when her boyfriend arrived at about 9 pm.

Zwane said the pair got into an argument, apparently after the woman had said she wanted to end the relationship.

Her sister, who was with her at the time, left to call the police and when she returned, she found her sibling lying on the floor with a blood-soaked pillow covering her chest. She had been stabbed once.

A murder case was opened at Mayville police station and an arrest warrant issued for the suspect.

Zwane said the police had still to find out where he had been all this time.
