Taste of guitar greats with Thomson

2010-04-13 00:00

HILLCREST’S Heritage Theatre celebrates its fifth birthday this month with A Taste of Thomson, the hit show by guitar maestro Barry Thomson.

The guitarist takes centre stage from April 13 to May 2 in a salute to artists who have had a direct influence on his life — musically and personally.

In a Taste of Thomson IV, Thomson teams up with musical director Dawn Selby (keyboards, Hammond organ and vocals), Mali Sewell (drums), Jason Andrew (bass guitar) and Jason Bottomley, a talented guitarist and matric pupil at Westville Boys’ High School, to showcase the music of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple and Jimi Hendrix. He will also perform some original songs, including Take It in My Stride and Walk a Mile.

“It’s an intimate show,” says Thomson. “I have chosen songs that are instantly recognisable hits and some that are not … but they all have musical or lyrical worth. The audience, hopefully, gets a chance to know a little more about me.”

To celebrate the venue’s fifth birthday, patrons are being offered a three-course meal and show for only R150 on April 13, 14 and 15. Thereafter tickets will cost R165 for Tuesday dinner (7 pm),and Sunday lunch (12.30 pm), and R190 Wednesday to Saturday (7 pm). To book, phone 031 765 4197.
