Taylor’s Halt campaigns for induna’s removal

2011-10-21 00:00

THE community at Taylor’s Halt in Vulindlela are so opposed to their induna that they refused to meet Transport Department officials who had come to the area to appoint local families to the Zibambele Contractors road maintenance programme.

They said they want to be involved, but not if induna Dodo Vincent Nzama is.

Department spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said a team will be sent to hold talks so that “community disputes do not prevent development”.

The main complaints against Nzama, said Zanele Ngcobo, the secretary of the local committee fighting for his replacement, are that he has not lived in the area since the 1980s, is rude in his dealings with people and has threatened some of them.

Ngcobo said many letters have been written to inkosi Maviyo Ngcobo and his council demanding the removal of Nzama. At the weekend committee members went to the inkosi’s homestead in Mafunze to meet him, but were not successful.

According to minutes of the Mafunze Traditional Council meeting dated September 18, the council rejected the call for Nzama’s removal because he has been in his position for a long time and his removal might open the way for the removal of other izinduna under similar circumstances.
