Thanda: Tovey likely to sign Usuthu stars

2011-07-15 00:00

UPON his return from a coaching course in Gauteng, Thanda Royal Zulu coach Neil Tovey will see familiar faces at the National First Division side’s training base at Richards Bay today.

As he rolls up his sleeves in preparation for what would be a gruelling 2011/12 season, Tovey may be forced to sign striker Dumisani Ngwenya and midfielder Litha Ngxabi — the duo he worked with at AmaZulu two seasons ago.

Both Ngwenya and Ngxabi, who were deemed surplus to requirements by coach Manqoba Mngqithi, have just returned from an unsuccessful trial stint with Platinum Stars.

Should they end up signing at Thanda, they will reunite with striker Sandile Gumede, who was loaned to the NFD side midway through last season.

Tovey, who revealed he will be looking to sign many youngsters and blend them with experienced campaigners, will do well to bring on board Ngwenya and Ngxabi.

During their time at AmaZulu, Tovey and the two enjoyed a good run, reaching two cup semi-finals and a cup final. Their combined experience will be expected to help steer the ambitious but under-achieving Thanda side to long cherished promotion to the PSL.

The NFD season kicks off in the second week of August. This season marks the return of a one-stream league with 16 teams campaigning.
