The heat is on at Michaelmas

2013-09-24 00:00

IN contrast to the first two days, the third day was warm for the most part and again there were some good performances, mainly in the batting.

Perhaps the biggest news was Northwood beating Grey College, the second loss by them, and Michaelhouse having a relatively comfortable win against the acclaimed St Stithians.

Michaelhouse and Westville hold the KZN flag high as they have won all three games, together with Affies, and KES. One of Westville and Affies will lose their fourth game as they play one another.

The most consistent batsmen have been Rawdon Capell from Northwood with three half centuries, Tafara Mupawira from DHS with two half centuries and a score in the 30s, followed by Kevin Short from PBHS, with one fifty and two scores in the 40s.

There were no centuries on the third day, but two batsmen came close. Nic Hern just missed out, with 99 for a losing cause in St Stithians’ loss against Michaelhouse, and Jake Alfred, who was 93 not out in St John’s win against DHS. The heat probably prevented any great bowling performances, with just Sahil Rugbar (Westville) and Devon Landman (St Alban’s), each capturing four wickets.
