‘The song of the flowers’

2009-11-10 00:00

IF you love flowers and live performance then Michaelhouse has a treat in store on November 15.

The school is hosting La Chanson des Fleurs – the song of the flowers at 3 pm in the Schlesinger Theatre.

Dionne Redfern, director of theatre, said that following the success of last year’s show, the school had decided to stage the unique concept again.

“The theme for this year is Songs from the Musicals and each participant has chosen a song. Each floral artist plans an arrangement, using whatever props or flowers are needed to visually depict the chosen song.

“On the day when the artist’s song starts playing, she has the duration of the song to set all props in place and complete the arrangement of flowers. For an hour, all one hears is lovely music and all one sees are works of art being created. And, by the end of the show, the stage is full of flowers.”

Some of the songs selected for this year have been taken from Phantom of the Opera, Ipi Ntombi, Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat and Annie Get Your Gun.

Tickets for the show are R40, which includes tea and eats. Proceeds will be donated to Free Me Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre KZN, a Howick-based charity that rescues, rehabilitates and releases indigenous animals, birds and reptiles. To book phone 033 234 1139.
