The terrific tango

2008-05-06 00:00

ON Friday, Music Revival presents a extravaganza not to be missed in the Victoria Hall at Maritzburg College. Tango Nights is a concert performance by Christopher Duigan’s Tango Ensemble.

This is a six-piece ensemble featuring the leader of the renowned Cape Town Tango Ensemble and internationally recognised tango expert, Stanislav Anguelov (accordion and bandoneon). Anguelov is joined by Cape Town-based James Grace (guitar), Christopher Duigan (piano), Ralica Cherneva and Valentina Koleva (violins) from the Blue Velvet Strings, and Andrea Kappen (double bass).

The programme selection includes traditional tangos together with music by Argentinean Astor Piazzolla whose nuevo tango music has become a worldwide phenomenon on international stages in recent years. Expect traditional tangos La Cumparsita and El Choclo, plus some of Piazzolla’s most acclaimed compositions — Adios Nonino, Milonga del Angel and Oblivion.

Book early to avoid disappointment. The show is at 7 pm and tickets are R125, which includes dinner platters (hot and cold) and cheese platters sponsored by Parklane SuperSpar. There will be a cash bar. Seating is at tables of six, eight and 10. To book, phone Music Revival at 033 342 3051 or e-mail booking@musicrevival.co.za
