Thieves leave note and money for householder

2013-07-25 00:00

A PRETORIA householder was surprised by polite thieves this week, who stole her doorbell — but left a note and R10 as payment.

Marinda le Roux, who lives in a secure complex, said she found the note and money on her gate on Tuesday morning.

In the note, “David and Tal from Israel” explained in broken English that they had come by selling paintings and had liked her “whistle” so much they decided to “buy” it.

They said it would help them on their selling rounds.

The doorbell is in the form of a vuzuzela and ball, which toots when the ball is pressed.

Le Roux said she couldn’t help smiling at the note, which was decorated with a flower and a smiley face.

The two thieves even left their cellphone numbers so she could contact them if she was too upset at her loss.

She didn’t want to do that, especially after she was the victim of a smash-and-grab robbery at a traffic light on Tuesday evening in which her handbag was stolen.

“I think I ‘sold’ my doorbell, which was worth a lot more than R10, for a good cause,” she said.

The guilty parties did not answer their cellphones yesterday.
