Third Day confirmed for Gateway

2009-09-04 00:00

ONE of the world’s biggest Christian rock bands, Third Day, will be coming to South Africa and performing in Durban to perform at the Wavehouse (Gateway, Umhlanga) on November 5.

The multiplatinum-selling rock band has an endless list of accolades besides having performed to numerous sold-out arenas around the world.

The band has, to date, 24 number one singles across multiple formats, yet the four-piece outfit’s willingness to struggle openly before fans and critics alike to unearth its identity, purpose and mission stands as Third Day’s most valued accomplishment during its first decade together.

Backing up the band’s ascent, Billboard magazine noted the act is “not only one of the best Christian bands of the nineties but one of the best rock bands, period.”

“Our career is like a dream. I didn’t even know I had,” drummer David Carr says.

“It’s gone beyond anything I could have dreamt of.”

During the past 15 years, Third Day has built an impressive career.

The Georgia-based band has won 23 Gospel Music Association Dove Awards, four Grammy Awards and earned two consecutive American Music Award nods.

Their catalog of hits has helped define the Christian radio landscape for more than a decade while the band scored 24 number-one singles and sold more than six million albums.

Success has also earned them respect and admiration from other artists, and Revelation, the band’s 11th studio album, features some intriguing collaborations — including Robert Randolph, Chris Daughtry and Flyleaf’s Lacey Mosely.

Third Day will perform at the Wavehouse, Gateway on November 5 at 8 pm.

Tickets are on sale now at R150 for general and R250 for golden circle, at the Wave House, Diva — Pavilion and Hillcrest KwikSpar.
