This time it's personal for 007

THERE is only one new film this weekend — the latest James Bond, Quantum of Solace, that is showing at all three cinema complexes locally. There will be previews of the Mr Bones 2 at Ster Kinekor this weekend, and the film opens there and at CineCentre on Thursday, a day earlier than usual.

Quantum of Solace is directed by Marc Forster, and, unlike most films in the franchise, follows on directly from the previous outing, Casino Royale. So Bond (Daniel Craig) is grieving for Vesper Lynd who died at the end of the previous film, and he is out for revenge. He is also up against a villain who wants to control the world’s water supply (you can’t help feeling that in the sixties, when the franchise began, he would have been more worried about the Martini supply). Expect plenty of action — chases, explosions and gadgets — in fact all the Bond paraphernalia. But reviews so far have not been all that complimentary, although Craig is still regarded as one of the best Bonds. Also starring Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric, Judi Dench, Heffrey Wright and Gemma Arterton.
