TWO Durban-based National Intervention Unit policemen and a Bayview-based officer have died in two separate car accidents.

Warrant Officers Vincent Musa Ndwandwe (46) and Jabulani Shadrack Njiyela (43) were killed instantly when their state Golf collided head on with a bakkie on the N2 between kwaMbonambi and Mtubatuba yesterday morning.

They were on their way to Hluhluwe on a duty call.

The unidentified driver of the bakkie also died at the scene. Two passengers on the back of the bakkie sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the cause of the accident is unknown and the police are investigating three counts of culpable homicide.

In another incident on Sunday evening, Constable Sizwe Sibiya of Bayview police died of his injuries on the scene after his vehicle collided with a truck at Umlazi A section. He was returning home from work. It is not clear how the accident happened and police are investigating.
