Three trucks collide: N3 closed for 10 hours

2011-09-13 00:00

A TRUCK driver died and three people were injured when three trucks collided on the N3 just past the Nottingham Road exit in the early hours of yesterday morning. Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the trucks were headed for Johannesburg.

One lane remained opened for traffic for about 10 hours. Mngomezulu said it was not clear how the accident occurred.

ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson said the injured men showed paramedics where the dead man lay underneath one of the trucks.

Jackson said only half of his body was visible, and that he was dead already.

“This man must have been ejected from the front cabin of his truck before it rolled to land on top of him,” said Jackson. She said the other three men were treated for minor injuries.

On Sunday in Durban North three men were killed when the Mercedes-Benz they were travelling in collided with a bakkie. Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said one of the men was trapped in the crumpled remains of the car that had caught fire.

Two men from the bakkie were found injured on the side of the road.
