Thrills, spills at Bell’s charity golf day

2010-12-04 00:00

THE recently held Bell’s Experience Golf Day at Victoria Country Club had no shortage of thrills and spills — both on and off the course.

The day, one of several held around the country, raises significant funds for the Petro Jackson Fund, which was set up to assist rugby players who were severely injured or paralysed whilst playing.

Another key beneficiary from the proceeds is the South African Disabled Golf Association.

There were eight disabled golfers who took part on the day.

Apart from doing their bit for charity, the entrants at Victoria also had the chance to win a spot at the National Finals for the competition at the prestigious Fancourt resort in the Cape.

What transpired atop the leaderboard is a seldom seen, with three teams in the betterball format locked on 45 points.

On a count-out, Kathy Botha and Billy Botha were the ecstatic winners of a trip of a lifetime.

The day was rounded off by a lucky draw for another spot for two at Fancourt. W. de Lange and J. Bishoff were the lucky two.

There will be another draw there to determine who wins the ultimate prize, a golfing tour funded by Bell’s to Scotland, to coincide with the British Open next year.
