Thusi loses bid for her old job

2012-06-21 00:00

FORMER KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education spokesperson Mbali Thusi yesterday lost a bid in the Labour Court to be reinstated to her old job.

She challenged Education MEC Senzo Mchunu and department head Nkosinathi Sishi over her appointment as the IT manager and Muzi Mahlambi’s as communications manager, her former job.

The two started their new jobs in May.

Thusi said she should not have been placed in the IT department because she was a qualified journalist and knew nothing about IT.

She was also unhappy with the procedures that removed her from her job and claimed that Mahlambi was incompetent. She wanted the department to reinstate her as communications manager.

Mahlambi is the former manger of adult basic education and training within the department.

Thusi said she did not wish to comment on the outcome of the case.

Mahlambi referred The Witness to the department, where spokesperson Sihle Mhlothwa said they respected the court’s decision.

The court ordered that Thusi pay the costs of the court action.
