BIDVEST Wits progressed into the next round of the Nedbank Cup after beating the University of Pretoria 3-0 in a last 16 match at the Bidvest Stadium last night.

It was a slow start to the game with both sides squandering possession in the final third due to some poor passing and bad decision making. The first real effort on goal came in the 25th minute when Papy Faty fired a half volley inches over the Tuks crossbar from 20-yards out.

Wits persisted and managed to open the scoring in the 39th minute when a Dillon Sheppard free-kick from the right resulted in a goalmouth scramble inside the Tuks box before Cornelis Kwakman fired the ball home on the volley from 14-yards out, 1-0.

Ten minutes into the second half Wits doubled their lead when Sibusiso Vilakazi expertly turned home a left wing cross from Jabulani Shongwe at close range, 2-0.

In the 63rd minute a superb 20-yard volley from Henrico Botes found the top corner of the net to make it 3-0. Wits kept it tight in the final ten minutes to move into the next round of the Nedbank Cup.
