Time to return home, says Zim expat

If President Robert Mugabe is defeated, thousands of Zimbabwean political activists who are living in exile around the world will celebrate all the way back to their country of birth.

This is the view of Tarisai Jiji, chairman of the MDC in KZN. He did not go home to cast his vote, but said he is that adamant Mugabe’s rule has finally ended.

"There are thousands of activists like myself who have been robbed of a chance to vote, as they are scared to return home. This is because even at the borders police and soldiers have been given our details, and we are likely to be eliminated.

"Even older people who voted Mugabe in more than 20 years ago have had enough of him. The condition of the Zim dollar should make the MDC win by 100 000%," said Jiji.

Jiji feels that Zanu-PF has tried to cook the results, which is why it’s taking so long for the final result to be announced. He said he cannot wait to return home to see his son Tasadzwa (7), whom he kissed goodbye when he was three months old.

"I couldn’t dare go home to vote, because even if the dictator [Mugabe] can say the elections are free, he just says it with a plastic smile … "
