Tip-off: R1,2 mln video haul

2011-04-28 00:00

THE Port Shepstone K9 Unit recovered Blu-Ray players and home theatre systems worth about R1,2 million in the Mehlomnyama and St Faiths areas near Port Shepstone on Tuesday afternoon.

KZN police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said a tracking company reported a truck hijacked in Durban early that day and the truck was later found empty.

After a search of the area police stopped a Toyota Hilux bakkie loaded with a large quantity of Blu-Ray players and home theatre systems, which were later established to be the consignment from the truck.

A second suspect was arrested shortly afterwards following a tip-off from the community.

“The truck was seen at a trading store in St Faiths earlier ... more of the cargo was also found there. Police are still looking for two more suspects...” said Naicker. He said the suspects will be charged only with theft as it was discovered that the truck was not hi-jacked as originally reported.

He could not give further details as the matter is under investigation. — WR.
