Toll roads: price increase in March

2009-02-15 00:00

Travelling on South African toll roads is going to cost more from the beginning of March. The South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral) has announced that it will be increasing toll tariffs, effective from March 1.

According to Sanral CEO, Nazir Alli, the increase in toll road tariffs will enable the government to build new highways and additional lanes.

He said this annual adjustment, which is effective on all national routes, has been approved by Transport Minister Jeff Radebe.

“South Africa’s road network remains the backbone of our economy. We must continually develop and maintain this network to ensure that people can arrive at their destinations safely and that goods flow through the economy efficiently,” says Alli.

Light vehicles travelling through the various toll gates on the N3 will have to pay between 50 cents and R5 extra. Mariannhill toll rises by 50 cents to R7, Mooi River increases by R3 to R30 and going through Bergville will cost an extra R1, bringing the price to R13. The Tugela toll increases by R5 and will cost R43.
