BBC ENTERTAINMENT has lined up a second season of award-winning crime dramas, which will be screened in July and August, at 8.30 pm from tonight.

The Crime and Justice season kicks off on DStv channel 120 with the critically acclaimed Father & Son, starring Dougray Scott (Desperate Housewives, Mission Impossible II), as ex-gangland boss Michael O’Connor, a man determined to make a new start in Ireland away from his gangster past in Manchester.

In the coming weeks the channel will also screen George Gently (July 19 to 23), starring Martin Shaw (Judge John Deed); the BAFTA Award-winning Criminal Justice (July 26 to 30); The Children (August 2 to 4), which stars Kevin Whately (Inspector Morse, Lewis); Hunter (August 5 and 6), starring Hugh Bonneville (Notting Hill, Iris) and Janet McTeer (Sense And Sensibility); and Wallander (August 9 to 11), starring Kenneth Branagh.

Other must-sees on M-Net (DStv channel 101) this week include the new season of Private Practice at 8.30 pm tonight, in which Addison and Naomi fight to save Violet’s life after an attack by her patient, Katie.

And fans of Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives can’t afford to miss the finales of the two popular series, which will be aired at 7.30 pm tomorrow and 8.30 pm on Thursday, respectively.
