Top dog: PMB police win three show awards

2013-05-28 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg police yesterday scooped three awards at the Royal Show for their display.

They worked in partnership with the Department of Correctional Services, the National Prosecuting Authority, Safe City and Business Fighting Crime to mount the Championing Safety and Security Exhibition in hall four.

The hall won a gold medal award for display, the Royal Commercial Trophy for best and outstanding display in an exhibition hall, and a trophy for best display by a government department.

Major-General Parbathie Maharaj of the SAPS said: “It is absolutely great that we have won these awards, but what is more important is that we are committed to providing excellent and efficient service delivery to our community”.

Royal Agricultural Society CEO Terry Strachan said: “The collaborative effort of all the departments involved in the Championing Safety and Security Exhibition was great. They deserved the award.”

The hall took over a week to set up, with many hours needed to get it in shape. It includes components like the self- defence exhibition, the police dive tank, the bomb squad stand, and the K9 search and rescue stand, where visitors may catch Udain the dog suspended from a harness.
