Top drawer cricket action expected this weekend

2015-02-07 00:00

THIS weekend’s school cricket clashes make for interesting reading, with all the scheduled fixtures guaranteed to deliver some top drawer action, not to mention results.

Perhaps the pick of the bunch will be Hilton travelling to Maritzburg College to do battle on the hallowed Goldstones. Both sides have played consistent cricket to date and College will be keen to avenge their semi-final defeat to Hilton in the semi-final of the KZN Inland Schools’s T20 League.

Rain has ruined both side’s recent matches and if this one runs the distance, it will be difficult to call. Hilton’s Julian Yeats is in prolific form with the bat and Gavin Morris is another player to watch.

College will call on the experience of Bryce Tullis and are a side who can dig themselves out of tricky situations. A day under the trees at Goldstones should not disappoint.

Kearsney entertain Clifton, the hosts enjoying a run of strong results and St Charles, fresh from their great comeback win against Northwood last weekend, are in Durban taking on DHS.

The Durban boys will be keen to return to winning ways after coming unstuck against Kearsney the previous weekend.

Westville Boys’ High, always a side brimming with talent in all departments, travel to Balgowan to meet Michaelhouse, in what should be another cracking showdown. Michaelhouse have some decent players in good touch with bat and ball and home-ground advantage will be a huge asset.

Down in Durban, Glenwood are down the road to Northwood and could prove too strong for their northern neighbours, who have looked somewhat brittle at times when the pressure has been on.

All in all, a fascinating weekend of fixtures with people spoilt for choice as to where to spread their picnic blankets.

Today’s School Cricket Fixtures (Hosts first)

Maritzburg College v Hilton

Kearsney v Clifton College

DHS v St Charles

Michaelhouse v Westville
