Topping the charts

2011-08-26 00:00

LOCAL Maritzburg singer Mario Ogle, who’s Sama-nominated debut album Can’t Stop Loving You has just passed sales of 17 000 copies, will be opening tonight’s proceedings for American singer Trey Songz’ at The Wavehouse in Umhlanga. Last year, Ogle was also the supporting act for Jay Sean’s South African tour.

Mario’s new track Superman is playlisted on East Coast Radio, and on stations across South Africa, and the music video has just been made public on You Tube.

Superman is the lead single from Mario’s follow-up album, also called Superman, which is set for release next month. Ogle wrote the song on his laptop in his bedroom at home in Pietermaritzburg.

All the tracks for the new album are produced by Durban producer Paul Stainbank, with whom he worked on the first album.

In the wake of the success of his debut album, Mario’s record label receives many requests for collaborations, and Mario recently recorded a house track (which Mario co-wrote) with DJ Giggs Superstar, a house DJ who was part of Soul Candi Records. This track is for DJ Giggs Superstar’s next house compilation.

Mario’s label was also approached recently by a United Kingdom-based agent, who heard about Mario in the UK, and was interested in working on launching Mario in the UK and internationally, but a decision was taken by Mario and his label to continue promoting in South Africa.

In the past several months, Mario has been on several TV programmes, including Top Billing, Showbiz Report, Craz-e and Sistahood.

Fans can get in touch with Mario on social media networks, Facebook and Twitter.
