Traffic mourns another officer

2008-06-22 00:00

The Msunduzi Municipality’s traffic division has been dealt another blow just a few days after burying one of their own who was run over by a minibus taxi — traffic officer Meena Govender died on Friday.

Govender’s death follows that of Desmond Hanson who was killed by a minibus taxi on Peter Kerchoff (Chapel) on June 12 and was buried last Tuesday. The driver of the taxi, Lucky Nhlanhla Mbonambi, has been charged with murder.

Govender started working at the public safety division in 1990 as an administration clerk. She qualified as a traffic officer in 2005.

Acting manager for public safety, Ken Chetty, said Govender was a dedicated person, well liked by her colleagues.

“We will always remember her unselfishness, kindness and dedication towards her profession and fellow traffic officers. She will always be deeply missed and remembered by all at public safety,” said Chetty.

Municipal manager Rob Haswell, extended condolences to her family and close friends on behalf of the municipality.

“We salute her contribution and will remember her best by living up to the high standards she set,” he said.
