Transnet strike: Hulamin's exports being affected, AGM told

2010-05-21 00:00

THE Pietermaritzburg-based giant aluminium semi-fabricator Hulamin expressed concern yesterday over the ongoing Transnet strike.

Chairperson Mafika Mkwanazi said at the Hulamin AGM yesterday that Hulamin is being affected by the strike as 70% of its output is exported.

“It is hoped that this matter is resolved timeously. The continuing strength of the rand against the major currencies is also impacting the business negatively. The consequences for the local economy are of concern and Hulamin is supporting the initiatives by industry to engage with all the stakeholders on the matter,” Mkwanazi added.

He said the positive developments that emerged towards the end of 2009 have continued into 2010.

“Hulamin is steadily resuming its growth trend in pursuit of its medium-term objectives.”
