Transport Dept cans commemoration day

Spokeswoman Nonkululeko Mbatha said the commemoration was postponed to December 2.

“There are no special reasons for cancelling the event. However, since this is a national event, there are other commitments as well,” she said.

A day before the commemoration, five people were killed in a crash involving a truck and a BMW on the R103 near Colenso.

It is alleged that the driver of the BMW was trying to overtake a car and collided head-on with the truck.

The driver of the truck sustained no injuries and the SAPS are investigating the incident.

An illegal u-turn is suspected to have been the cause of an accident on the M7 outside Pinetown yesterday, where a man was killed and his two children critically injured.

“I am sending my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. We urge motorists to be very careful when driving … especially that we are now heading towards the festive season,” said KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Bheki Cele.
