Treat our four-legged friends to a day of fun

2013-06-29 00:00

SOME dogs are getting the very best of both worlds tomorrow.

They get to do their favourite thing — walkies — at Hilton College, no less, with lots of their four-legged friends and they will probably score a hot dog or two.

The Weekend Witness 1 000 Paws Walk for SPCA tomorrow (June 30) is a real family fun day full of opportunities to win wonderful prizes, watch special displays, eat, drink and be merry. While you and your family are having a great time, you will be helping Pietermaritzburg, Mooi River and uMngeni (Howick) SPCAs to bring relief to animals that don’t have caring owners, don’t ever see a vet and can’t even imagine the life some lucky dogs have.

There will be entertainment from one extreme to the other, from township dog training displays to the SA Air Force dog demo, then from belly dancing to modern dancing with the Caledonian Pipe Band in between and Harley Davidson bikes lining up with vintage cars. X marks the spot where the skydivers land and also stand a chance to win two nights at Bellwood cottages or two nights at Netherwood cottages or other great prizes.

The two- and four-kilometre walks are open between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm. Entry is R30 (under sixes free) and R10 per dog.
