Tunisia tops medal standings

JOHANNESBURG – SA Olympic swim stars George du Rand and Amanda Loots set championship records, but it was the Tunisian line-up who topped the medal standings after the final day of swimming pool action, at the ninth African Swimming Championships held at the Ellis Park Aquatics Centre here today.

Tunisia ended at the top of the medal table with a total of 30 medals (13 gold, seven silver and 10 bronze), with SA placing second on 38 (11 gold, 19 silver and eight bronze).

Men’s RESULTS:

50 metres freestyle: O Mellouli (Tun) 23.26, 2 T Ferris (Zim) 24.08, 3 Y Yeiyah (Nig) 24.15

100 metres backstroke: 1

G du Rand (SA) 55.92, 2

D Murray (SA) 57.89, 3

1500 metres freestyle: 1
