Twins from Durban take the ‘Idols’ audition at Sun City by storm

2013-08-27 00:00

DURBAN twins Neliswa and Anele Mxakaza, together with Innocent Mabushe and Phiwayinkosi Mfeka, reduced Idols judge Unathi Msengana to tears on Sunday night during the first programme dedicated to the theatre auditions of the popular show at Sun City.

She told the four young singers, who performed Michael Bublé’s Home: “The four of you were impeccable”.

Neliswa and Anele, who are identical twins, made it to Sun City after receiving votes from all three judges at the March auditions at the Playhouse in Durban, including hypercritical Randall Abrahams. They are among 33 singers still left in the competition.

Also through to the next phase is Crystalene Nair, the talented science teacher from Richmond Combined School, who wowed the judges in Durban with her version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

Meanwhile, Queensburgh’s Leigh Hondy, who was thrown a lifeline by Msengana after failing to impress the judges on the first day of what is called “hell week”, showed what she was made of in the group sessions.

To find out how the contestants from KwaZulu-Natal get on, make sure you watch Idols on Sunday at 5.30 pm on
