Two hurt in tractor accidents

2010-01-14 00:00

TWO men who were injured in two tractor accidents — in Tongaat and in Mooi River — on Tuesday are reportedly in stable but critical conditions in hospital.

In the first accident, a 76-year-old man from Tongaat was critically hurt when the tractor he was driving rolled, pinning him underneath.

It is believed the man was driving along a steep ridge when the tractor overturned, trapping his lower body.

Jeff Wicks of Netcare 911 said paramedics and fire-fighters had to raise the tractor to free the man, a challenging task that took more than an hour.

At Mooi River, a farm worker was critically injured when a tractor’s trailer rolled on top of him. He suffered “polytraumatic crush injuries” and is in a very critical condition, according to staff at Medi-Clinic.
