Two in court for murder attempt

2013-10-07 00:00

TWO men have appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court for the attempted murder of police officers and a security guard investigating the recent murder of an Eston farmer.

Brothers Mfanelo (35) and Sphelele Dlomo (27) allegedly attacked the officers, of Mid Illovo SAPS and Magma Security, who were following up leads concerning the murder of Micky Hampson at his farm last week.

Police spokesperson Captain Musa Ntombela said the officers came under fire when they knocked on the door at the Dlomos’ home.

Ntombela said the Magma Security officer was lucky to escape with only a graze to the head when a shot was fired.

The brothers were then subdued and arrested. They are expected back in court today on charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
