Two killed, many injured on KZN roads

2014-06-03 00:00

TWO people were killed in separate accidents on various roads yesterday morning, KZN Emergency Medical Service spokesperson Robert Mckenzie said.

In other accidents people escaped with minor to moderate injuries.

In Mariannhill, on the M1 near the St Mary’s monastery, a minibus taxi collided with a truck. One person was fatally injured. Nine others suffered serious to minor injuries and were treated on scene by paramedics.

A collision in Merebank on Chittagong Road left 14 schoolchildren with minor injuries.

On the N2 near Queen Nandi Drive a vehicle overturned, leaving one person with minor injuries. Hours later another vehicle overturned on the same spot, injuring two people.

Mckenzie said a person was killed after being hit by a train at the Phoenix railway station.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said motorists behaved themselves over the weekend despite the huge number of visitors who came for the Comrades Marathon.

“We urge motorists to maintain this kind of behaviour to avoid unnecessary loss of lives,” said Mngomezulu.
