Two rampaging wildebeest kill father and son

MACLEAR (Eastern Cape) — A farmer and his son have been killed by two rampaging black wildebeest.

Michael Moore (59), his wife Adele, their son, John-John, and daughter, Julie, were walking on their farm, to join other family members who had taken a drive and were waiting for them.

“Michael and John-John were killed when two black wildebeest rushed them,” a farmer in the Eastern Cape district of Maclear told sister paper Volksblad.

When the animals rampaged towards them, Adele managed to get away and run in the direction of Rhodes village.

“She asked for help at the nearest farm,” said Gerrit Henning, chair of the Rhodes Community Safety Initiative.

Moore senior farms with another son, David, who was away in East London at the time.

Julie managed to phone him, and he then phoned others in the area to send help.

Adele was unhurt, while Julie is being treated in hospital for injuries to her head and face.
