Two teens die after being set alight

TWO teenagers have died after being attacked and set alight in KwaMashu.

Three teenagers were returning home after going to buy petrol when they were accosted by five men who demanded money from them. When the teenagers said they didn’t have any money, the men attacked them, poured petrol over them and set them on fire.

The three were taken to R.K. Khan Hospital in Chatsworth where Vusi Biyela (18) and Anele Kubheka (18) subsequently died of their injuries. A third unidentified teenager is fighting for his life.

Provincial transport minister Willies Mchunu condemned the attack.

“This ruthlessness is shocking and it indicates the lowest decline of morals and humanity,” said Mchunu.

“How can normal people be as violent and brutal as to set other people on fire? This incident is totally abhorrent and it should be condemned strongly.”

MEC Mchunu urged members of the community with information regarding those responsible for the attack to report to the police. Two cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened. No arrests have been made.
