Umhlanga designer shows why local is better

PROMINENT local designer Bianca Warren can add showcasing her designs at the SA Bridal Fashion Week to her list of prestigious achievements.

The 28-year-old fashion designer from Umhlanga showcased two of her designs last night, the opening night of the fashion week, held at Sibaya, alongside designers such as David Tlale and Jacqui Emmanuel.

Warren supplies boutiques around South Africa with her ball gowns and evening wear.

“My gowns are inspired by elegance and sophistication. I totally believe local is better, so it’s good to be noticed at home,” said Warren.

She said the recipe for her success is a combination of willingness to learn, hard work and staying focused on her goals.

“Always keep your head down and keep working towards your goals. Never lose focus; the industry is tough and competitive,” Warren warned.

She counts one of her greatest achievements as being asked to be a judge at the annual DUT third-year fashion show.

“I won best designer in my final year [at DUT], so to be invited back to be a judge was quite something,” said Warren.

SA Bridal Fashion Week brings in a host of top local designers in an attempt to inspire brides-to-be. “I have been an invited guest to Hong Kong Fashion Week and the Durban July, and have dressed Miss Earth and the former Miss South Africa,” said Warren.

SA Bridal Fashion Week, a showcase for all things wedding, runs until tomorrow.
