Umvoti: does mayor feel guilty, asks IFP

2011-07-20 00:00

THE Inkatha Freedom Party questioned yesterday whether a guilty conscience has driven Umvoti’s millionaire mayor, Philani Mavundla, to forfeit his R700 000 a year salary and use it to fix potholes in the Town.

Deputy provincial chairperson Blessed Gwala says the IFP has it on good authority that Mavundla has had numerous provincial government tenders awarded to a number of his companies. “Some of them include tenders to build and maintain roads and bridges across KwaZulu-Natal.”

Speculating that the mayor could be driven by a guilty conscience, Gwala called on Mavundla “to own up as to the real motives behind this seemingly selfless action”. — WR.
