Underpaid: Stormers blow up over match fees

2012-05-07 00:00

CAPE TOWN — The Stormers and their bosses, the Western Province Rugby Union, are embroiled in a dispute over money. The players are unhappy because they get paid less in match fees and win

bonuses than should be the case, said Rapport.

The amount they receive is apparently less than that dictated by a recent agreement between the SA Rugby Players’ Association and the SA Rugby Employers’ Association. It states that players are entitled to R3 000 per game, as well as R3 000 in win bonuses.

The WP union apparently only pays the players R2 000 per game and an additional R2 000 for a victory.
