United aim to return to winning ways when they face Santos

2011-10-28 00:00

MARITZBURG United coach Ian Palmer says that his side is confident of recovering from last weekend’s 1-0 Telkom Knockout defeat at the hands of Santos in tonight’s PSL encounter against the same opposition.

United return to Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium for the second time in a week to do battle against the People’s Team, who won last week’s match in the 93rd minute.

“Make no mistake, the boys were very disappointed to be knocked out of the cup, but they have been working extremely hard in training this week and they believe they can go and get the three points,” said the coach.

United are now in sixth position on the log and will be desperate to get something out of tonight’s match with tough games outside of Maritzburg coming up against giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Three League points for us is far more important than a quarter-final position in the cup,” he said. “Our priority for the season is still to finish in the top eight.”

Club’s chairperson Farouk Kadodia has said that he will be satisfied with four League points from United’s next three fixtures.

Tonight’s match kicks-off at 8 pm.
