United take a cautious approach

MARITZBURG United will be more cautious when they visit Polokwane City for a PSL clash tonight at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Maritzburg coach Steve Kompela believes that they need to keep their eyes wide open when they visit City, who suffered their first loss since October when they collected a 5-1 hiding from the University of Pretoria in a midweek fixture. Kompela says they need to be careful of a potential City comeback.

“I think after Polokwane City’s defeat against amaTuks they will try and take the game to us. We must make sure that we are cautious at all times as they are an attacking team as well,” said Komphela.

The Team of Choice have claimed nine points from seven away matches this season and are going into the match with wounds after they were beaten 2-1 by Mamelodi Sundowns at home in midweek.

Polokwane City midfielder Cole Alexander said he has watched Maritzburg playing before and he feels they are playing similar football to them.

“I have watched Maritzburg play; they play good football and they have a good coach on their side. I think they play similar football to us, which is the attacking football,” said Alexander.

Having started well in the season, Alexander feels that Polokwane need to go back to the basics and apply what worked for them before. He said they will use this match to win the trust and respect of their fans.

“We need to make sure that we close the year on a good note. We need to do what we did at the beginning of the season and get our basics right,” added Alexander.

“I think all the guys are positive and we will give Maritzburg a good run for their money.”

When the two teams met in Pietermaritzburg earlier this season, the Team of Choice claimed a 2-1 home victory.

United go into the match without any new injury concerns, but they are without the services of suspended left back Khumbulani Banda. The Zimbabwean picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Sundowns.

Kick-off is at 8.15 pm.
