United’s home stadium: make-or-break meeting today

2012-05-18 00:00

MARITZBURG United’s potential move to Port Elizabeth appears to have been put on ice.

The club has been offered R20 million over three years by the Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB) Municipality to make the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium its preferred home venue for the next season, but after investigations yesterday The Witness learnt that the deal is yet to be finalised.

Today is the PSL’s deadline for clubs to submit their preferred venues for next season.

United chairperson Farouk

Kadodia revealed that the league had given him an extension and that a meeting this morning could shape the outcome of his

decision.

“The league has allowed us to submit our preferred fixtures by either Friday afternoon or Monday morning,” Kadodia said.

Kadodia, who was in Johannesburg yesterday, said he hoped to reach a decision on the matter after meeting with a potential KwaZulu-Natal-based sponsor this morning.

NMB municipal official Zolile Siswana could also not provide any clarity on the matter

yesterday.

“I don’t know where we are at the moment; it seems as though everything is being delayed,” he told The Witness.

“It is better for us not to comment right now; we will know the outcome very soon and then we will be able to talk about it, whether it is positive or negative.”
