Valley of a thousand hills:new computers for rural community

THE rural community of the Valley of a Thousand Hills has received a much needed helping hand in the form of 10 donated computers from private companies.

Residents in Inchanga, Fredville and surrounding areas stand to benefit, with skills development the priority.

Three computers have been installed in a local community centre that is used for healthcare, ambulance services, education programmes and daily meals.

The centre houses a computer room and the Beehive Internet Café, which adults use for basic education and training.

Community members were thrilled. Zandile Phetha (25) said it was hard for her to travel to Pinetown. “This is a blessing to us; we are now able to get information from the Internet here.”

Founder and manager of the centre Dawn Leppan said: “Pride and dignity are vital to any person’s growth. New computers and this wonderful bright, open space provide local residents with a feeling of empowerment …”
