Verdict on Chetty to be tabled

2011-11-15 00:00

THE long-awaited ruling on the suspended Hibiscus Coast Municipality director of protection services, Victor Chetty, is expected to be discussed at an executive committee meeting today.

Chetty was suspended in May this year on allegations of crimen injuria, including that he sent SMSes with racial undertones to some staff and was abusive to staff.

In July municipal manager Sbu Mkhize refused to speculate on the outcome of the hearing.

Recently municipal spokesperson Simon Soboyisa reported that an independent disciplinary body has finalised its hearing after testimony from the complainants and Chetty and that Mkhize is awaiting a ruling.

Soboyisa confirmed last week that a decision has been given to Mkhize.

“The hearing process chaired by an independent advocate is now over.”

The verdict will be presented by Mkhize to the executive committee and the council today before it is made public.

This process will probably take two weeks.

Soboyisa said councillors are concerned about the time taken to finalise the matter.

Chetty is suspended on full pay and Steven Goldsmith was appointed acting director of protection services.
