Veterans team up

2008-10-17 00:00

Three new films open locally this weekend. They are Drona at Nu Metro, where Hellboy 2 also joins the list, and Eagle Eye and Righteous Kill at CineCentre. Taken comes back at Ster Kinekor.

Drona is directed by Goldie Behl and stars Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in a fantasy tale of one man’s journey through the world of Indian myth, heroes and magicians. He represents good in the clash of good and evil, and is the only person who can save the human race.

Jon Avnet directs Righteous Kill which teams up Robert de Niro and Al Pacino as a pair of veteran New York City police detectives on the trail of a vigilante serial killer. The case seems to have links to one they solved years before — so, did they put the right man behind bars the first time? Whether the material is strong enough to support two of Hollywood’s finest on screen together remains to be seen.

Eagle Eye is directed by D.J. Caruso and stars Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan as two strangers who are being manipulated by a mysterious voice over a cellphone. Their lives are being threatened as they are pushed into a series of increasingly dangerous situations. The plot is completely implausible, but if you can buy into it, it may be fun.
