Volleyball league good for the sport

FOR the past two weekends, Westville Boys’ High School’s Invitational Volleyball League has been underway, a pre-season tournament in its eighth year that has produced men and women players at national and provincial level.

An eight-week league plus a Top 4 tournament lie ahead, offering boys at U14, U15, U16 and U19 an opportunity to play, while the girls division has U16 and U19 teams.

Westville’s tournament was over two weekends to accommodate the 14 schools and 43 teams participating. Games were keenly contested and well supported by parents and spectators, the U19 matches drawing the most interest.

Participating boys’ schools were Westville, New Forest, Kingsway, Northwood, Hillary Primary School, Queensburgh, Glenwood and Pinetown Boys’ High, while Danville Park, Ridge Park, New Forest, Durban Girls’ High, Kingsway, Westville Girls’ High and Northlands battled for the spoils in the girls’ divisions.
