Wally Wilson Oval: KZN Inland under pressure

2012-10-12 00:00

WESTERN Province had a good day at the office against KZN Inland at the Wally Wilson Oval in Cape Town yesterday.

Day one of this CSA Provincial Competition match saw Inland’s stand-in captain Matt Hulett win the toss and elect to bat, the visitors’ first innings realising 239 all out in 81.4 overs. At the close, WP were on 63 for one after 18 overs, just 176 runs behind on the first innings.

Four Inland batsmen got a start, but were not able to kick on to a big score. Batting at eight, Ruhan Pretorius top-scored with 44. Nic Hendrie and Kyle Nipper, who is taking a break from the captaincy for this match to concentrate on his own game, both made 32.

All six WP bowlers shared the wickets. Beuran Hendricks was the most successful, and the most miserly, of the WP bowlers, taking three for 35 off 17.4 overs at an economy rate of 1,98. Monde Zondeki took one for 31 off 13.
