Warning: rapists prey on school girls

2008-02-15 00:00

Police have warned girls to be vigilant and not to accept lifts from strangers, after a 16-year-old girl was abducted from Northdale, driven to an informal settlement and raped by two men on Wednesday.

Police spokeswoman Joey Jeevan said that a student from a local college was walking along Naidoo Road in Northdale hoping to get a taxi home to Imbali. She was allegedly approached by two unknown men in a white Toyota Corolla who offered her a lift home and coerced her into the car, said Jeevan.

After threatening the girl with a gun, one of the men then covered her face with plastic and drove her to a house in the Nhlalakahle informal settlement at Northdale, where the men allegedly took turns in raping her.

Police are appealing for information regarding the incident to contact Inspector Zakhele Mgobhozi on 078 172 0300 or 033 3879500.
