West Indies’ Chris Gayle signs for the Dolphins

2011-09-09 00:00

THE Dolphins announced yesterday that they have signed West Indian Chris Gayle for the Pro20 competition early in 2012.

An all rounder, Gayle is known to decimate his opponents with his no-holds-barred style of batting and will be a regular feature at Kingsmead next year.

Tall and imposing at the crease, he loves to carve through the covers off either foot, and has the ability to decimate the figures of even the thriftiest of opening bowlers.

Fondly called “Mr Cool”, Gayle is the only batsman to have hit a century in a Twenty20 international and was the leading batsman at the last edition of the IPL. In domestic T20 cricket, his batting average is 39, with a strike rate of 150.

“I am really excited to be joining the Dolphins. T20 is a form of the game I love and to get the opportunity to play in a beautiful place like Durban is massively appealing. South Africa will provide a new challenge, and I’m sure alongside Shaun Tait and under the guidance of Graham Ford we can be a success,” commented Gayle.

“It is indeed a huge privilege for the Dolphins fans, players and coaching staff to have such a brilliant player involved in our 20/20 campaign,” Graham Ford, Head Coach of the Dolphins said. He added Chris will “bring a huge amount of flair and excitement to our cricket” and “greatly assist the progress of our younger players”.
